He is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, the British Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons and of the Association of Facial Plastic Surgeons.  He has completed a long training in the UK comprising degrees in both Dentistry and Medicine. He has also completed overseas specialised fellowships in Amsterdam, Holland (Orthognathic Surgery) and Utah, USA (Facial Plastic Surgery).

Mr Akhtar is actively involved in teaching at all levels from Medical and Dental students to Specialist trainees in OMFS. He is a member of the NW Deanery Specialist Training Committee in OMFS

Whilst we usually require a referral from your General Practitioner, Dentist or Specialist, it may be possible to see you without a referral.  We are able to offer consultations in Blackpool, Preston and Lytham.

OMF surgery is unique in requiring a dual qualification in medicine and dentistry, and is often seen as the bridge between medicine and dentistry, treating conditions that require expertise from both backgrounds such as head and neck cancers, salivary gland diseases, facial disproportion, facial pain, temporomandibular joint disorders, impacted teeth, cysts and tumours of the jaws as well as numerous problems affecting the oral mucosa such as mouth ulcers and infections.
